PROCESS-BASED, LABOR-INTENSIVE WORK

Devin M DeLaney

My world revolves around process - I like knowing how materials behave and how to push them to new limits.  Much of my work is informed by the complexity and fragility of systems and networks.  I am often trying to push the stability of the systems I create using elements of weight or time.

My work is often made with the most basic materials (fabric, paper, plaster, wood, wax), but I also rely heavily on found and neglected materials.  I like giving neglected things importance and value.  Not only to I enjoy the collection and gathering of objects, but the effort to recontextualize undervalued or mundane things helps me start to notice and appreciate undervalued things surrounding us everyday.
